Plot summary
Ravenside Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania is a mental institution, and Boris, Jackie, Isaac and Sam are patients there under Dr. Donwynn. Digging in the yard, they uncover a thermos that is rusted shut. Sam tries to open it without success, and Donwynn puts him in charge of keeping it safe. Jackie slips away with it and carries it into a bathroom, where he opens it and an object falls out, releasing a virus that infects the group and Donwynn. Thirty-seven years before, the same building served as a military hospital, the site of an experiment that transformed people into zombies; a private named DeLuca hid a test tube of the virus in the thermos, which was afterwards left behind in the grass.
