Plot summary
In Warsaw, Poland, Tadek is a married detective. He takes on the murder of a businessman named Daniel Sadowsky. To his surprise and to the surprise of everyone else who knows the case, the killing is identical to a murder described in a recently published novel by a controversial author named Kozlov. Tadek works to prove that Kozlov committed the murder.

- Dark Crimes was based on David Grann's 2008 New Yorker article "True Crime: A Postmodern Murder Mystery", about convicted murderer Krystian Bala, who supposedly wrote a fictionalized novel about a murder he committed.
- Christoph Waltz was in line to play Jacek Wroblewski in True Crimes, but in May 2015 Jim Carrey was announced as his replacement for the part.
