Plot summary
Sindhu and Manikandan are in the last year of college, and he is possessive and quick-tempered while she is bold. When she becomes pregnant, he wants her to end the pregnancy and she refuses. Neither family approves of the couple, so the two live together and handle the pregnancy without support from their parents. Money is short and the strain of an unplanned baby wears on them, and Manikandan treats Sindhu poorly and leaves her to cope largely on her own. His drinking adds to their trouble. At a checkup, a doctor warns Sindhu that her blood pressure is high and that she is severely malnourished, both of which endanger the baby.
