Plot summary
A career-ending knee injury brings Gordon Bombay back home from the minor leagues, and he is offered the job of coaching a team representing the United States in Los Angeles at the Junior Goodwill Games. He gathers most of his old Ducks, among them Charlie Conway, Jesse Hall, Connie Moreau, Guy Germaine, Greg Goldberg and Adam Banks, and Fulton Reed joins them. Five players from across the country fill out the roster: Luis Mendoza, a speedster from Miami; Dwayne Robertson, a puck handler from Austin with a cowboy edge; Julie Gaffney, a championship goalie from Bangor; Kenny Wu, a junior Olympic figure skater from San Francisco; and Dean Portman, a tough enforcer from Chicago. The new teammates unify quickly, but in Los Angeles celebrity life pulls Bombay away from the team.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The filming of the final game was the first event ever held at the brand-new Arrowhead Pond, drawing about 15,000 people. Because the shoot ran several days and the crowd thinned out, the crew brought in cardboard stand-ups and moved them around to fill in shots.
- Scott Whyte originally auditioned for the role of Dean Portman in D2: The Mighty Ducks, but the part went to Aaron Lohr instead.
