Plot summary
Saxons overrun a castle and kill its king and queen, but their infant son is sent down the river, wakes without his memory, and is taken in by the blacksmith Eyvind, who raises him as Eric. Twelve years on, Brunhild, Queen of Iceland, follows runes promising that a man will come from a falling star and defeat her. A meteor lands near the smithy, and at its crater Eric fights the cloaked Brunhild, beats her, and falls in love with her. She takes one of the two strange rocks and leaves for her kingdom. In Burgund, where the dragon Fafnir has burned a village, King Gunther's company fails against the beast, so Eric forges a sword from the meteor ore and enters the lair.
