Plot summary
On the road home from vacation, a blown tire forces Annie, her brother Johnny and their father Clifford to stop at a rest area. There Johnny and Annie meet Josh, whose stepfather Briggs is the landlord of the building they live in, and Charlie McFadden, a bounty hunter tracking the Critters, who gives Johnny a crystal that will glow green when the family must look out for itself. A Critter lays eggs beneath the family van, and they drive on with the eggs aboard. At the tenement, the eggs hatch and the creatures head for the basement. Briggs arrives to evict the tenants, with a reluctant Josh in tow.
