Plot summary
Mike is an elusive jewel thief in Los Angeles who plans each robbery with care, avoiding violence and leaving no DNA behind, then escapes along Route 101. He hijacks a diamond shipment and takes three million dollars in real stones hidden among decoys. A bullet grazes him, and he calls off a planned job in Santa Barbara. His fence, Money, enlists the volatile young biker Ormon instead. Detective Lou Lubesnick of the LAPD connects the diamond heist to a run of robberies that were never solved, arguing for one suspect over the objections of his colleagues. Mike also begins a romance with Maya, a stranger who rear-ends his car, and pays a hacker to gather details on Sharon, an insurance broker whose firm undervalues her.
