Plot summary

Five stories link through shared characters and a hot dog stand. Alice Jacobs comes home to find her father, Detective Jacobs, pressing buttons on a universal remote built by Professor Dayton; each button changes the family, though not Alice. Security guard Jerry buys a radio from a street vendor, and it talks back to him. Rachael, a call girl who murders her clients, is hired by a shy man named Victor. Professor Dayton introduces his fiancée Kathy to two former students, who remember his practical jokes and suspect she is a robot. Dr. Farwell, a cruel physician serving a court-ordered sentence at a free clinic, drops a hot dog on the sidewalk and hands it to a homeless man.
