Plot summary
The year is 1998, six years after a nuclear war left the world in ruins. Los Angeles has turned toxic, and the rain is poisonous. Five Army deserters move through the ruined landscape in search of shelter and supplies; Kate and her boyfriend are among them. They take cover in an abandoned laboratory and explore its underground rooms, where they find traces of the experiments carried out there and of scientific work that ignored ethics. The five have only the limited resources the facility offers, and distrust and personal conflicts come to the surface among the group as they try to survive.
