Plot summary
The Hesogakure family has guarded the earth's navel for generations, holding it shut with a pure gold stopper through a Mononoke Ninja technique handed down among them. If the stopper comes off, the earth will wither and its rotation will stop. Long use of the technique transforms those who wield it into animals. One day a woman of that family, Chiyome Hesogakure, arrives at the Nohara household with a child, Chinzō, and announces that Shinnosuke is her real son rather than Misae's. She takes Shinnosuke away to the ninja village, leaving Chinzō with the Nohara family. The village is led by a headman.
