Plot summary
Shortly before Halloween on Mars, Faye Valentine is chasing another bounty when a tanker truck blows up, and an unknown pathogen spreads from the blast, killing and sickening numerous people. The Martian government offers 300 million Woolong for the culprit's capture, and the Bebop crew sets out to earn it. Spike Spiegel, Faye, Jet Black and Edward all take part in the hunt. The Bebop crew are not the only ones after the culprit.

- The film's villain Vincent was partly meant as a type of villain that could not be done in the series, and was inspired by American actor Vincent Gallo.
- Two guest directors were brought in for difficult sequences Shinichirō Watanabe could not handle: Hiroyuki Okiura directed the opening, and Tensai Okamura created a cinematic Western shown at a drive-in during the film.
- Wanting an Arabic feel unlike the series' New York and Hong Kong inspiration, Watanabe took a research trip to Morocco, where the character Rashid was based on the guide who showed the team round the city.
- Watanabe had the idea for a film while developing the original series, which he had first envisioned as a film, and treated each episode of that series as a miniature film.
- The film's Japanese cinema release on September 1, 2001 became a subject of debate among Western audiences after its international release, because of its proximity to the September 11 attacks.
