Contractor's Routine (2011) on Netflix

Plot summary

Jacob Borschevsky is a contractor of forty in San Francisco. He keeps his tools arranged, shapes wooden objects with his hands and collects preserved butterflies, drawn to what endures and to what is already dead. Among other people he has few of the skills that fitting in requires. In his fantasy life he keeps a mentor named Esau, an alter ego he can summon, who labors to hold him to a righteous path. Jacob's daydreams turn to killing, and they taunt him as he hunts for equilibrium. He holds that the universe requires balance and that destruction belongs to its cycle. His disorder seems stronger than Esau's guidance, and the frustrations of an ordinary day weigh on him.
