Plot summary
After their divorce, fourteen-year-old Ava lives with her father, Dominik, who has settled into a quiet life. Her mother, Naomi, once half of a successful techno DJ duo, is working toward an international comeback. That comeback runs through clubs that open after dark, and Ava is pulled into the nocturnal scene along with her. Naomi thrives among the pounding beats; the scene is not Ava's own. Ava tries to adapt to it anyway, to the nights and to her mother's ambitions. Between her father's quiet days and her mother's nights, she struggles to hold on to a sense of her own identity.
