Plot summary
After a wartime plea spared the children's hospital she ran in Normandy, Sister Margaret promised God she would build one in America. She and Sister Scholastica arrive in Bethlehem, a small New England town, where they meet Amelia Potts, who paints religious pictures. Miss Potts' postcard, reproducing her nativity painting Come to the Stable, is what pointed them to Bethlehem, and a hill in another of her paintings looks like the site. That hill belongs to Luigi Rossi of New York. The local bishop cannot back the project but gives them a little money to tide them over, and the sisters set out to ask Rossi for the land.
