Dooley Wilson

Dooley Wilson was an American actor, singer and drummer who began as a child performer in Tyler, Texas. He came up through Chicago's Pekin Theatre and New York stock companies, played in James Reese Europe's band, and in the 1920s led his own group, The Red Devils, through London and Paris nightclubs. During the 1930s he turned to acting, taking supporting roles on Broadway and in small films. His breakthrough came in 1940 as Little Joe in Cabin in the Sky, a Broadway musical that won him a Paramount contract. He was best known as Sam in Casablanca (1942), where he sang As Time Goes By; Variety singled him out for the song. Other films included My Favorite Blonde (1942), Stormy Weather (1943) and Passage West (1951). He later appeared on Broadway in Bloomer Girl and on television in Beulah.
