Plot summary
Zheng Bi-qiu, the governor's son and a provincial magistrate, is taken by the bandit Jade-Faced Tiger, who wants his imprisoned master set free. Zheng refuses, so Tiger sends the governor a demand: the master is to walk free within five days, or the son dies. The governor's daughter, an adept swordfighter known as Golden Swallow, sets out disguised as a man to reach her brother. When Tiger's men confront her at a local inn, she shows what she can do against them. That night a beggar called Drunken Cat, who gathers scraps with a troop of children, covertly stops an ambush aimed at her, then denies it when she thanks him. In a song he passes her a coded message marking a Buddhist monastery where the gang has settled with the help of its abbot, Liao Kung.
