Plot summary
Two merchants, working by ruse and greed, capture Glauco, a compulsive liar, and Pirro, the Colossus of Rhodes, and drug the food and drink of their ship's crew so that everyone can be sold to the Amazons. Inside the Amazon city, men do the cooking, mending, mopping and washing. The redheaded Queen presides over a council where the warlike Melitta and the blonde Antiope argue over the fate of the prisoners. The councilors tend to spare the men, but Melitta asks for a trial by combat with Antiope to settle the matter, and Antiope refuses to fight. Weary of her duties, the Queen wants to hand them to a younger woman.
