Plot summary

Sean Clark, a dangerous psychopath who tried to kill a woman, is confined in a prison psychiatric hospital. The psychiatrist Phil Davis secures his early release, saying he acts for Sean's father, a man who will neither meet nor speak with his son. Davis hands Sean money, drives him to a new home and reminds him that weekly visits are the condition of his freedom. Sean takes a job at a large company owned by Davis's wife, Linda Cross, and tells Davis that he loves her. Linda, meanwhile, is convinced her husband is having an affair, between secretive phone calls and conference trips he never attends. When a presentation of her film comes up, the assistant who was to go with her proposes Sean as her replacement.
