Plot summary
The hobbits are a small, peace-loving people, and their village is the last one still standing. The Java Men, cannibals who ride dragons and worship komodos, raid the settlement and carry its inhabitants away as slaves, Goben's mother among them. Goben is a young hobbit, and his father and his sister are with him when the three of them go in search of help from the giants, the human hunters. The giants are the hobbits' neighbors, and the hobbits need them to find the Javas' lair and free the people who were taken. The two peoples join forces against the Javas.

- A Warner Bros. lawsuit brought a temporary restraining order that stopped The Asylum releasing Age of the Hobbits on its December 11 date; the judge found it infringed the "hobbit" trademark and risked confusing consumers. It became the first Asylum film blocked from release.
- Warner Bros. sent The Asylum a cease-and-desist letter over Age of the Hobbits on August 31, 2012; the studio changed some promotional material but refused to drop "hobbit" from the title. Warner Bros., New Line Cinema, MGM and Hobbit producer Saul Zaentz then sued in November 2012, claiming the film was free-riding on Peter Jackson's Hobbit promotion.
- The Asylum argued its film was legally sound because its hobbits were not Tolkien's, saying Age of the Hobbits was about the real-life human subspecies Homo floresiensis, discovered in 2003 in Indonesia and called "hobbits" in the scientific community.
