Plot summary
Fighters compete for the chance to set out against Zetan, a wizard said to hold a book of enlightenment containing the world's wisdom. Cord, an arrogant barbarian fighter, defeats every opponent at their tournament but is thrown out for fighting dishonorably. The winner, Morthond, earns the right to go. Cord decides to trail Morthond, hoping the path leads him to Zetan too. While the two rest, a blind flutist walks past them into a building. Cord watches the blind man drive off a gang of thugs, then asks to learn from him. The blind man says no, but Cord tags along anyway, and the lessons he receives are riddles that leave him irritated.

- Bruce Lee co-wrote the film and intended to star in it himself, but he abandoned the project due to frustration with pre-production and friction with co-stars; Richard Moore directed it instead.
- The story was conceived in 1969 by Lee, James Coburn and Stirling Silliphant under the original title The Silent Flute; after Lee's death in 1973, Silliphant and Stanley Mann completed the screenplay and Lee's part went to Kung Fu television star David Carradine.
- After Lee abandoned the project the original script was rewritten, with some of its violent scenes replaced by comedic themes.
