Earl Maynard
Biography
Earl Maynard is a bodybuilder, professional wrestler and film actor from Barbados who was born on November 28, 1935. He took up wrestling while serving in the Royal Air Force on Cyprus, turned professional in 1960, and was brought to the United States by promoter Gus Karras. He wrestled for promotions in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Japan, including the American Wrestling Association, New Japan Pro-Wrestling and Stampede Wrestling, and held the NWA Americas Tag Team Championship with partners Rocky Johnson and Dory Dixon. His bodybuilding titles include Mr. Europe in 1959, Mr. England in 1960, Universe wins in 1964 and 1965, and the Masters Mr. America in 1978. He retired from wrestling in 1978 and appeared in more than 20 films, among them Mandingo (1975), The Deep (1977), Circle of Iron (1978), The Big Brawl (1980) and The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982).

About the name
Maynard was a two-time winner of the most prestigious bodybuilding title, and because of that he eventually became known in wrestling circles as "Mr. Universe".
