Plot summary
A meteorite breaks apart in the sky above the small town of Lennox, and one fragment comes down on a car while the other lands in the mountains beyond. Cold then takes hold of the town in stages, and the freeze keeps growing outward. Charlie Ratchet, a father who lives in Lennox, joins Alex Novak, a graduate student with an interest in the meteorite, to try to undo the cold before the town and everyone in it is frozen. His son Tim heads into the storm after Marley Crooge, and the two of them struggle to stay warm on the way back.
