- Chris Rock never performed the twelve-minute routine "Niggas vs. Black People" again after the controversy it caused. In a 2005 60 Minutes interview, he said that some racist people thought it gave them license to use the slur, so he was done with the routine.
- By 1994, Chris Rock's career had slumped so badly that he called himself a has-been. Determined to subvert any preconceived notions about him, he prepared for the special by performing nightly in comedy clubs for two years and then launching a national tour.
- The special's success led HBO to develop a weekly talk show for Chris Rock, The Chris Rock Show, and boosted his acting career from very minor roles in Sgt. Bilko and Panther to major roles in Lethal Weapon 4 and Dogma.
