Plot summary
In the old west, Chino Valdez lives by himself and breeds horses. He is a half-breed, and most towns make it clear that he is not wanted there. One day a young runaway named Jamie Wagner appears at his ranch looking for work and a place to sleep. Chino is reluctant to take him on, but he does, and he teaches the boy how to raise, break and breed horses. As the two work side by side, they begin to accept each other. Chino also meets Catherine, a beautiful woman, and falls in love with her, though her brother hates him.

- Director John Sturges was unhappy with the finished film and called the casting of Jill Ireland a fatal mistake. Six months after finishing it, producer Dino De Laurentiis gathered the actors and crew for re-shoots and inserts, hiring Italian director Duilio Coletti when Sturges was unavailable; Coletti is credited as co-director on some European prints.
- Lino Ventura was originally cast as Maral in the Western, but he left the project after realizing his role was too small and lacked enough substance.
