Fausto Tozzi

Fausto Tozzi was an Italian actor and screenwriter who appeared in some 70 films from 1951 to 1978. Born in Rome, he trained in accountancy and took odd jobs before Sergio Amidei brought him into the film industry as a stenographer. Through Amidei he met Renato Castellani, and he worked with him as a screenwriter on Professor, My Son (1946) and Under the Sun of Rome (1948), the latter based on his own story. From the early 1950s he also worked as an assistant director and an actor, often in main parts and typically cast as hardmen and villains. On stage he was best known as Gnecco in Rugantino, and on television as Menelaus in L'Odissea. The Defeated Victor, which he wrote, was entered at the 9th Berlin International Film Festival, and he directed one film, Trastevere. He died in 1978.
