Plot summary
The theologian Symonds and the scientist Alex, students at Trinity College, call on the elderly Aleister Crowley in 1947. Crowley talks of returning from death by way of sex magic, and a letter tells him that a pupil of his had given away a ritual's secret to a writer of science fiction; he curses the pair and dies, and Symonds keeps his watch. Fifty years later Symonds lectures at the college and Alex, a physicist, is paralyzed. Dr. Mathers arrives from a California institute with a suit that joins a wearer to a virtual world run by the campus supercomputer Z93, and the journalist Lia Robinson seeks an interview. Victor, a programmer who follows Crowley, and the literature professor Oliver Haddo plant Crowley's binary code inside Z93 as a virus. Before the official tests Haddo puts the suit on.
