Plot summary
Friends of Raj and Priya are recounting the couple's story to Deepak's fiancée Sheetal, who is being persuaded that true love does exist. Raj Mathur is an engineering graduate who runs his own small trucking company, Raj Transport, and he is carefree, messy and never on time. Priya Chopra designs fashion, comes from a wealthy family and lives with her aunt Anna, and likes her life arranged in advance. Their first encounter is a crash, when Priya's car hits Raj's truck. The two cross paths again at Salim and Farah's wedding, become friends and fall in love. Raj discovers that Priya is already engaged, to Sameer, and follows her to Greece to keep courting her.

- Rani Mukerji was first offered the role of Priya in Chalte Chalte but turned it down because of her commitments to Shaad Ali's Saathiya, and after Aishwarya Rai was signed and then removed, and Kajol declined because of her pregnancy, Mukerji finally took the part.
- Rani Mukerji had a complete makeover for Priya by MAC Cosmetics India director Mickey Contractor, and the tanned complexion and smoky-eye look was reused in her later films Hum Tum, Veer-Zaara and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, the last of which also starred Shah Rukh Khan.
