Plot summary
Samar Anand serves as a major in the Indian Army, defusing bombs with no thought for his own safety. In Ladakh, Akira Rai, who makes documentaries for the Discovery Channel, dives into Pangong Lake and is pulled from the water by him. He lends her his jacket and walks away before she can hand it back; in its pocket she finds a diary and starts to read. The diary goes back ten years to London, where Samar was an immigrant scraping by, playing music on the streets and taking menial jobs. He is waiting tables at the engagement party of Meera Thapar, a businesswoman, when they meet. Meera prays often, and she has vowed to God that she will not love him.

- Yash Chopra wanted scenes from the Swiss Alps added to the title song, but the shoot was cancelled after his death. His son Aditya kept the film exactly as it was, saying that changing it would "tamper" with his father's vision.
