Plot summary
Lucy Cullins is an executive at the Shop-A-Lot Channel, and she gives her job more time than she gives her family. The channel needs a Santa Claus to advertise its Christmas memorabilia, and Lucy reluctantly hires a man named Nick. He is the real Santa Claus, at the close of a two-hundred-year reign, and he must find a successor by Christmas Eve. Lucy does not know that she is the only candidate left. In 1965 in Los Angeles, she sat on a mall Santa's lap and his hat glowed; her father was killed soon after, and she lost her faith in the Christmas season.
