Plot summary
New York City police captain Bosch has a personal stake in the flood of missing persons reports crossing his desk: his wife Flora is one of them. A.J. 'The Reverend' Shepherd, who runs a shelter for the homeless, tells Bosch the disappearances are part of a cover-up and says he has evidence to prove it. George Cooper, a former fashion photographer, now spends his time photographing the city's undergrounders, the people who live in the sewers and subway tunnels. Wilson of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission appears to guide Bosch's superiors, who know more than they admit. Something beneath the streets has been coming up through the manholes to feed.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about C.H.U.D. (1984)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Panned on its first release, C.H.U.D. built a cult following over the years: it inspired the name of a film website, which repurposed the acronym as Cinematic Happenings Under Development, plus a political epithet, and it has been referenced in The Simpsons, The Flash, Archer, Futurama and Rick and Morty, among others.
- From late 2019, the film's title supplied internet culture with the insult "chud", used to deride people involved in far-right politics.
