Plot summary
David Bennett, a naive graduate student in New York City, is gay and in a monogamous relationship. He volunteers for a program that pairs a buddy, a volunteer friend, with a person dying of AIDS. The man assigned to him is Robert Willow, a gay man dying of AIDS and an intensely political lifelong activist. Robert's friends and family have abandoned him since his diagnosis. The two men hold notably different views of the world.
