Plot summary
Loretta McLaughlin reports for the Boston Record American in 1962. Three older women in the Boston area have been raped and strangled, each with a stocking knotted at the neck in a bow, and she connects the cases to one killer. Her boss and the city's police are angered by the story she writes. Jean Cole, a fellow reporter, works the case alongside her, and the two women face open sexism in their newsroom and in society. The hours Loretta spends reporting strain her marriage, and her family is harassed. In their articles the pair give the unknown killer a name: the Boston Strangler.
