Plot summary
Isabella, a model at a Roman fashion house, is murdered at night by an assailant in a white mask, a black fedora and a trenchcoat. Inspector Silvestri takes charge, questioning Massimo Morlacchi, who runs the salon alongside the widowed Countess Cristiana Cuomo, and Franco Scalo, an antique dealer who sold cocaine to the models and whose drug habit Isabella had tried to end. Silvestri learns that the salon is a place of drugs, corruption and blackmail. Isabella kept a diary setting down the vices and private lives of the people around her. The diary passes into the hands of Nicole, another of the models, who says she will take it to the police; Peggy, a co-worker, then takes it without being seen.
