Plot summary
In 1944, Elisa Ivanov is left with the puppets when Ivan departs for Russia to continue his brain research. She suffers vivid nightmares about Elsa's death and about Major Kraus, along with premonitions of chaos. Blade, who has no elixir left and can manage only small movements, draws on Elisa's psychic energy, and she notices. While sharpening her knife she cuts herself, and the blood creates a bond between them. Elisa turns her psychic powers inward on Blade, hoping to learn who he was as a human. In California, the Deathcorp Project continues, funded by District Attorney James D. Madison, who supplies scans of the Scroll of Osiris and material about Toulon's puppets.
