Plot summary
In 1900, gangsters kill Roberto Columbo, an Italian-born attorney in New York's Little Italy, while he is with a police officer to report an extortion attempt. His widow takes their son back to Italy, and she dies there. Eight years on, the son, Giovanni, returns to the city resolved to settle accounts with the men responsible for his father's death. He looks up Isabella Gomboli, a friend from childhood, and the detective Louis Lorelli; both try to talk him out of it. A man Giovanni hoped would identify the killers is murdered. Giovanni and Isabella set out to rouse their neighbors in Little Italy against the Black Hand racket.
