Biography

An American lyric soprano, Teresa Celli first trained with Italy's La Scala opera company before moving into film work. She was born in Dysart, and her American radio debut came on March 5, 1949, on an NBC broadcast of Star Theater opposite Frank Sinatra. Border Incident (1949) served as her first screen role. The following year she appeared in The Asphalt Jungle (1950), a film later nominated for four Academy Awards, and in Black Hand (1950) with Gene Kelly. She also acted in Right Cross with Ricardo Montalbán. While under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, she received a leave for extra opera training in Italy, though the journey was delayed after Peter Herman Adler cast her in The Great Caruso (1951). She died in 1999.
