Did you know?!Facts and trivia about The Hijacking of Flight 375 (2023)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- The film is inspired by the real case of Raimundo Nonato Alves da Conceição, who in 1988, frustrated with Brazil's economic situation, planned an attack on the Palácio do Planalto and boarded a VASP flight from Rondônia armed, demanding the plane be diverted to Brasília to crash into the palace.
SPOILER
In the real hijacking, Raimundo Nonato stormed the cockpit and killed co-pilot Salvador Evangelista; the pilot made a risky "tonneau" manoeuvre and a 9,000-foot dive near Goiânia airport, and Raimundo was shot by the Federal Police as he left the plane using the pilot as a shield.- At around R$15 million, O Sequestro do Voo 375 was the most expensive Brazilian film made up to that time.
- The Brazilian Air Force helped with equipment, vehicles and locations, including closing a military runway for a week, in aid valued at about R$2 million, and part of the plane was mounted on a gimbal that let it rotate 360° during filming.
- For the shoot the production repainted a preserved Brazilian Air Force Boeing 737-200 (VC-96, FAB 2116), a different variant from the 737-300 involved in the real hijacking, in VASP colours, and parked a preserved VARIG Lockheed L-188 Electra beside it for the airport scenes.
