Plot summary

Nina Soares began playing piano at eight and wanted to join a symphony orchestra from the age of fourteen, when she collapsed during a recital and was diagnosed with lupus. As a young adult she learns the disease has left her kidneys working under ten percent, placing her on a kidney donor list behind more than fourteen thousand people and on four-hour dialysis three times a week. When the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra advertises for a piano soloist, Nina practices after hours at the conservatory where she teaches. Gabriel, a resident doctor, first meets her when he crashes his bike into the station piano she is playing, and the next day he appears on her medical team. He pushes her to keep fighting, and finds her a practice piano after the conservatory lets her go.
