Plot summary

Bettie Page, a pin-up model whose photographs made her a cult figure from the 1950s onward, tells her life story in her own voice. The film is built around audiotaped interviews recorded before her death, in which she describes an abused childhood, her years as the subject of widely circulated photographs, and the mental illness she lived with. Photographs and clips from old movies illustrate her account, with commentary from others on her significance. The documentary presents her free expression as a factor in the cultural changes that led to America's sexual revolution. She asks to be remembered as she was in the photos.
