Plot summary
Scott and Kristin hold their wedding in Phoenix, with Scott's best friend Lumpy as best man. Lumpy drinks through the reception until Scott cuts him off, and later that night he falls in his hotel room and cracks his skull; he is found dead the next morning. Scott considers it his duty to bring him home to Minnesota, so the couple postpones their honeymoon and flies to Minneapolis to plan a funeral and reach Lumpy's friends. Kristin is unhappy to lose the trip but stands behind the decision. In a small town in northern Minnesota, fifteen-year-old Ramsey Anderson lives with her mother, who is a drug addict, and her mother's boyfriend, a former soldier in Iraq.
