Plot summary
Woodrow and Aiden, friends from Wisconsin now living in California, spend their free time building flamethrowers and other weapons, preparing for an apocalypse that would let their imagined gang, Mother Medusa, rule the wasteland. Their plan has three parts, and the flamethrower is only the first. One night at a bar with live music, Woodrow enters a cricket eating contest and is beaten by Milly, while Aiden talks to Milly's friend Courtney. Woodrow and Milly take a road trip to Texas in search of the most frightening restaurant he can imagine, where he fights a local who insults her and swaps his car for a motorcycle. Back in California the two begin dating, although Milly's roommate Mike is hostile toward Woodrow, and Aiden completes the flamethrower as tension grows between the friends.
