Behind the Stage Door (2022) on Netflix

Plot summary

Rich Engler grows up in Creighton, a working-class town in western Pennsylvania, and joins his first band in 1963 while still in high school. He soon books shows for the group, The Royals, playing social clubs and after-hours spots for a hundred dollars a night. Music pulls him away from studying art in college, and by the late 1960s he is booking concerts at theaters and colleges across Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio. Teaming with Pittsburgh promoter Pat DiCesare, he builds DiCesare-Engler Productions and promotes touring stars. In 1977 the company buys the Stanley Theater, a 3,500-seat movie house in Pittsburgh, and turns it into a concert hall that Billboard ranks first among mid-sized auditoriums in 1978.
