Plot summary
Sushil Kumar "SK" Pant works in Tehri, Uttarakhand, making his living as a lawyer who settles cases out of court. His childhood friends are Lalita "Nauti" Nautiyal, a fashion designer who thinks highly of herself, and Sundar Mohan Tripathi, who runs a small printing press. Nauti wants to get married, so she decides to date both men, each for a week. When SK catches Nauti and Sundar kissing, he begins taunting them and keeping away. Sundar's press is then charged an inflated electricity bill, and the amount climbs over the following months. He and Nauti go to SK for a solution, but SK insults them instead.

- Before Shraddha Kapoor was confirmed as Lalita 'Nauti' Nautiyal in director Shree Narayan Singh's film, actresses Katrina Kaif, Ileana D'Cruz and Sonakshi Sinha were all approached for the part.
- Vipul K Rawal, the film's original writer, filed a case against the director and other writers for trying to deny him credit; it was settled with story, screenplay and dialogue credit shared equally between Rawal, Sidhartha Singh and Garima Wahal.
- The shoot of Batti Gul Meter Chalu was halted when its producer, KriArj Entertainment, ran into financial troubles; filming resumed in May 2018 and was wrapped up in June 2018.
