Plot summary

At a science academy, Marlo presents her evidence that mermaids exist, and Dr. Amy Tang cuts the institution's funding for the search, dismissing it as a fairy-tale hunt. Far below, in the kingdom of Pacifica, a giant golden pearl sends out a beam of light that names eight mer-persons as guardians, and only six are present. Isla, one of the chosen, swims off to find the last two. The pearl necklace she once gave Barbie Roberts brings Barbie, her sisters Skipper, Stacie and Chelsea, and Brooklyn Barbie into mermaid form, and Isla tells them they will gain powers and meet Coralia, Pacifica's leader. Three other mer-people, Talleigha, Sareena and Finn, also want the title of Power Keeper.
