Plot summary
Catherine Racan is a young journalist who has put her career ahead of her love life, and the police have brought her in for questioning. Investigators are looking for a doctor who carried out illegal abortions, and they are questioning the women who went to him. Catherine answers by going back over her own story: how she arrived in Paris with Pierre, her gentle lover, and how she shed him; how she met Blaise Walter, a powerful newspaper editor; how she became the guiding spirit of Alain Bergère, a young photographer; and how she came to Doctor Jacques Daniéli, who helped her end her pregnancy.
