Plot summary

Marcus Burnett becomes a grandfather, and he tells Mike Lowrey, his partner on the Miami police force, that he intends to retire. In Mexico, Isabel Aretas leaves prison with help from her son Armando, who is sent to Miami to recover money that her late husband Benito hid and to kill the people responsible for Benito's arrest and death in prison. She wants Mike to die last. During a footrace between the two detectives, a gunman shoots Mike, and he spends months in a coma. After he recovers, he wants to track down the shooter, but Marcus refuses to help, unwilling to risk more bloodshed. Captain Howard lets Mike join AMMO, a younger unit run by Lieutenant Rita Secada, Mike's former girlfriend.
