Plot summary
On his first day as king, Babar is asked to pick a name for Elephantland's yearly parade. Cornelius and Pompadour tell him a committee must examine the matter first. His cousin Celeste then interrupts the court with word that the rhinoceros lord Rataxes and his horde have attacked her village. The chancellors dismiss her, and Babar orders an elephant army called up. The army cannot be mustered for at least three days, so Babar leaves his cousin Arthur in charge of the throne and sets off alone into the jungle. He reaches Celeste's village to find it burning, and the rhinos are carrying the adult elephants off to build a rhino city. Babar tries to intervene and is attacked.
