Plot summary
Angel lives in Brooklyn with her mother Gabby, and her ex-boyfriend Hector, who is abusive, will not accept that the relationship is over. An attack leaves Angel badly hurt, and weeks pass before she can think about dancing again, though the moves she once had do not come easily. Gabby brings her to live with Angel's grandmother in Los Angeles, because Gabby believes Angel will be safe there. Angel studies during the day and works nights at a car rental company. She also meets a crew of breakdancers who are short one member for a competition, and she joins them.
