Plot summary
Jack Peterson is a widower raising three children, Frankie, Kyle and Stretch, on the family farm. A group of trumpeter swans takes up residence at the pond on his land, and Jennie Newsom, a wildlife biologist, comes to the farm to track the birds. She is willful, and the swans hold her attention more than the family does. Hostility marks her first meetings with Jack.
