Plot summary
In 50 B.C., Julius Caesar believes Gaul is wholly subdued. Lucius Detritus knows otherwise: one village still holds out, and he keeps the news from Caesar. At the garrison near that village, its commanding centurion, Caius Bonus, tells Detritus why the Romans cannot take it. A druid named Panoramix brews a potion that makes anyone who drinks it invincible. Obelix fell into a cauldron of it as a child, and the strength has stayed with him. The village depends on Asterix, who is clever, and on Obelix. Detritus sets out to get the potion for himself, and his first attempt is to do away with the pair, which does not succeed.
